• September 16: Last day to add courses without departmental approval

Neurobiology Major in L&S New!

The new Neurobiology major in the College of Letters and Science is now open for students to declare if they wish to do so.  Students should meet with a Neurobiology advisor to declare or obtain information about the new major, not their advisor for the Biology major.  The new major is only offered in L&S and students are not able to double major in both Biology and Neurobiology.  The Neurobiology Option in the Biology major is closed to new students, but existing students in the Neurobiology Option will be able to finish and graduate with this designation.   

Career/Internship Events and Workshops

September is Career/Internship Month!

Fall Career and Internship Fair (Sept 22) New!

The Fall Career and Internship Fair will be held on September 22 from 4:00 - 8:00pm in the Kohl Center.  The free event open to all students will feature approximately 750 recruiters from over 300 companies.  For workshops and help preparing for the career fair be sure to visit

Internshipalooza (Sept 20) New!

Join past interns, employers, and UW staff to get started on finding your internship. We'll kick off the evening with a panel of local employers where you'll have an opportunity to ask questions about what it takes to have a successful internship experience. Next we'll break into a resource session where you can chat with other students who have completed an internship, meet with various career professionals, and have an opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with the employer panelists. Light refreshments provided.  The event is on September 20 at 7:00pm in Gordon Dining Center.

Engineering Career Fair New!

All UW-Madison students and alumni are invited to attend the Engineering Career Services Career Connection at Gordon Dining and Event Center.  Employers are primarily recruiting engineering students, but all science majors are encouraged to attend the event.  Different employers participate on each date, so students should attend all three days for maximum networking.  All three days will take place in the Gordon Dining and Event Center:

• Monday, Sept 19 - 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. - 100 organizations

• Wednesday, Sept 21 -11 a.m. - 5 p.m. - 99 organizations

• Wednesday, Sept 28 - 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. - 105 organizations

Career Exploration Open House (Sept 20) New!

Interested in exploring potential careers?  The Career Exploration Center is having an open house on September 20 from 10:00am - 2:00pm to help students understand their services.  Students are also encouraged to visit their website and schedule an appointment to start their career exploration process.

Interested in participating in an internship abroad?  The International Internship Program has a number of upcoming events and workshops to help you research opportunities and prepare your applications for Spring 2017 and Summer 2017 internships abroad:

Academic Workshops and Opportunities

Research Opportunity in Neuroscience Lab New!

The Zhao Lab is looking for a new undergraduate research assistant.  Students will start with general lab tasks and chores and will be encouraged to participate in weekly lab meetings and join discussions on research projects. Depending on aptitude, the student will be matched to a research team and contribute to experiments leading to scientific publications.  Eligible students should be:

• a current freshman or sophomore

• have a goal to enter a PhD or MD/Phd program after graduation

• be in a bioscience major

• have a science gpa of 3.3 or higher

Study Abroad Fair (Sept 14) New!

 Interested in learning more about study abroad?  Check out the study abroad fair on September 14 from 1:30 - 6:00pm in Varsity Hall at Union South.  It is the biggest study abroad event of the semester and a great chance for students to browse 200+ programs, chat with returned students, learn from program leaders and IAP staff, or attend info sessions on study abroad funding, internships and more.

Undergrad Research Publication (Sept 16) New!

Want to publish your research paper? The UW-Madison Journal of Undergraduate Science and Technology is accepting submissions for their Fall 2016 publication. They are accepting both scientific manuscripts and general review articles of current technology from all quantitative areas of undergraduate research on campus. The deadline for submission is September 16.  For more information visit

Boston University MPH Program (Sept 19) New!

Interested in learning more about public health programs?  Learn about how to become a competitive applicant for Master's in Public Health (MPH) programs. An admissions representative from Boston University will describe BU's program and answer questions about how to prepare for the application process.  The event will be on September 19 at 1:00pm in 120 Middleton Building.

Morgridge Public Service Fair (Sept 27) New!

This event provides students the opportunity to connect with local, state and national nonprofit agencies. Students can chat with people from these organizations to find volunteer opportunities, jobs and internships that match their interests, major, and career goals.  Check out the list of organizations that will be there.
