Biology Major Peer Mentors – applications due April 7, 2025
The Biology Major is seeking friendly and motivated student leaders to serve as peer mentors. Peer mentors will aid in the academic and personal growth of First-year and Second-year Biology Majors by providing insight on success in the classroom, navigation of campus resources, and identification of out-of-classroom bioscience experiences.
Start and End Date: August 28, 2025 – May 8, 2025
Anticipated Hours: Three to Four hours per week during the 2025-2026 academic year
Wage: $15.00 per hour
Qualifications
- Declared Biology Major in third year or 4th for 2025-2026 academic year.
- Good academic standing
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to problem-solve, multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work both on team and self-directed projects.
- Ability to maintain a positive and supportive relationship with mentees.
- Ability to build community with mentees of multiple intersecting identities (race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, nationality, differing abilities, other social identities)
Position Summary:
- Build relationships with assigned mentees by leading one-on-one or group meetings.
- Model and encourage successful learning and engagement behaviors.
- Support mentees in accessing campus/community resources and events.
- Coordinate presentations/outreach/events as needed.
- Contribute article submissions for Biology Major Newsletter
- Actively participate in mentor trainings, check-in meetings, and assessment processes
- Work with mentor supervisor to ensure mentees who need additional support are directed to the appropriate services and resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work location: This position requires work to be performed in-person on campus. Some duties may be able to be performed remotely.
